ROURKELA: The long-awaited Integrated Electronic Surveillance and Traffic Management System in the Steel City is expected to be completed by December 20. The smart solution project will help strengthen police, manage traffic and crowds in addition to controlling crime during the 2023 World Cup of Men’s Hockey scheduled for January next year.

After several flip-flops, the Rourkela Smart City Ltd (RSCL) belatedly took over the multi-component project for an outlay of around Rs 90 crore. The implementation of the components of the smart solution, including the laying of fiber optic cables, has already started.

According to sources, as part of the integrated electronic surveillance system, at least 450 CCTV cameras are installed at 110 strategic locations in the city. Similarly, under the traffic management project, 13 major locations would have an adaptive traffic control system.

The project modules involve integrated traffic management system, adaptive traffic control system, red light violence detection, automated traffic chalan system, intelligent waste management system, control center control panel, public address system, emergency call box, city-wide CCTV monitoring and citizen mobile service. application.

A target has been set to complete the project by December 20. RSCL has signed an agreement with outsourced company Bharat Electronics Limited for the implementation of the smart solution project. RSCL CEO and Rourkela Municipal Corporation Commissioner Subhankar Mohapatra said the entire city will be covered by the smart solution project. The stretch between the Hockey World Cup site and the multi-purpose Birsa Munda stadium is being completed on a war footing. He claimed the project would be completed before the mega hockey event.
