‘Driving You Crazy:’ Traffic light, traffic jam at busy Wake Forest intersection cause for concern

Wake Forest, NC (WNCN) — A traffic light at a busy intersection in Wake Forest is driving a man crazy, so he contacted CBS 17 in hopes of getting some answers.

The intersection is Ligon Mill Road and South Main Street.

In an email, driver Jerry Welch said traffic off Ligon Mill Road needed a dedicated green light because he believes the current flashing yellow light is causing traffic jams.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation sent a team to the intersection after traffic anchor Laura Smith reached out in hopes of getting answers.

In an email, spokesman Aaron Moody said “our Wake District office has reviewed the signal you inquired about and determined at this time based on traffic conditions, a flashing green to the left is not justified”.

But, Moody said the DOT Traffic Unit is working to adjust the light timing on Ligon Mill to help keep traffic flowing.

“Additionally, we anticipate that the green turn signal will eventually become necessary, so our district has asked our traffic unit to go ahead and design the green left turn so that it will be ready for installation once that it will be deemed justified,” said Aaron Moody of NCDOT. .

CBS 17 plans to stay on top of this story and update it as changes go into effect.
