IG for Circulation System Improvement
LAHORE: IGP Punjab Rao Sardar Ali Khan has requested all RPOs, DPOs to formulate special plans to improve the traffic management system in their respective districts. He asked them to ensure smooth traffic flow on busy highways in cities namely Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Multan and Faisalabad. Giving instructions regarding the violation of traffic rules, he said action should be taken quickly against vehicles emitting heavy smoke on highways. The culprits of one-way, one-way and other traffic offenses deserve no sympathy and legal action should be taken against them without delay. According to the Punjab Police Spokesperson, more than 74 lakh challans have been issued for violation of traffic rules in Punjab and around 380,490 vehicles have been arrested for causing environmental pollution.
Arrested: Shafiqabad Police arrested a murder defendant shortly after killing a man. Defendant Muhammad Asif stabbed Asif to death in a minor altercation.
Found dead: A youth was found dead in the canal within Mughalpura police boundaries on Monday. Passers-by spotted the body floating in the canal and informed the police. The victim was identified as Tahir, a resident of Harbanspura. The victim was believed to be a drug addict and it was suspected that he had accidentally fallen into the canal. The body was handed over to the heirs.
Murder: Ravi Road Police have arrested a man involved in two murders. Defendant Barkatullah had killed Samiullah in Ravi Road area and Inamullah in KP Bajaur.
Accidents: The Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) has responded to 1,078 road accidents across all districts of Punjab in the past 24 hours. In these accidents, 14 people died, while 1,149 were injured. Of this number, 686 people were seriously injured and transferred to various hospitals.
