Job as Urban Traffic Management & Control (UTMC) Group Manager with Lancashire County Council

The Urban Traffic Management and Control team is part of the Motorways Department, which is responsible for providing all key services associated with the maintenance and management of Lancashire’s road network.

We are looking for someone with experience and a proven track record in managing a team responsible for large UTMC infrastructure. The successful candidate will be responsible for the management and supervision of the technical teams and the appointed contractor responsible for providing a range of services and functions related to the maintenance, operation, improvement and renewal of our extensive UTMC infrastructure. The position will also work with colleagues and teams to help the county council identify the way forward in terms of future mobility technologies and transport decarbonisation challenges. Importantly, you will work collaboratively and often take the lead with key stakeholders, partners and a range of internal and external teams, customers and organizations to create a best-in-class UTMC network . You will be the council’s professional expert on UTMC matters playing an important role in helping achieve council priorities.

For the purposes of this job description, Urban Traffic Management and Control (UTMC) is the name encompassing traffic signal control, intelligent road infrastructure including vehicle-operated signs, traffic control equipment, automatic data collection, city traffic control plus remote monitoring and UTMC/common database systems.

The position is a permanent full-time position (37 hours per week) and your office base will be County Hall, Preston. However, the successful candidate will be expected to work from a variety of locations as required. The role is not solely office or home based and site visits will be required. The position is an essential car user position therefore a full driver’s license is required and the use of your own vehicle which must be insured for business use.
