New traffic system will soon be operational in Guwahati: police commissioner

Guwahati, August 16: Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS), deployed by Guwahati Smart City Limited (GSCL) will soon be operational in the city, Guwahati City Police Commissioner Harmeet Singh informed today .

To ensure proper traffic management and monitoring, digital traffic systems have been installed at several intersections in the city. Installation work has been launched gradually at several intersections.

Speaking to the media, Singh said the physical infrastructure of the circulation system is ready and software testing has started. After adding a few more components to the system, the whole system will be fully operational.

“Cameras and sensors installed with the system will be used to monitor traffic volumes. There will be CCTV cameras connected to the traffic signal system. The camera that will be installed above will capture images of all traffic and roads and the one installed in the ground will identify the face and license plate of the vehicles.If someone breaks the traffic rules, the sensor will identify the offender and automatically an E-Challan will be generated.

Singh further informed that Dispur Police Station will be moved to Ganeshguri near Gopal Boro School within 10-15 days. Singh and Co-Commissioner of Police Partha Sarathi Mahanta inspected the new police station today.
