The Traffic Control and Observation Zone (TROZ), which was piloted in Anna Nagar a few years ago, is expected to be extended to cover the entire city once the transport system intelligent (ITS) will be commissioned by Greater Chennai. Company next year.

TROZ had helped traffic police make better use of personnel and removed the need to deploy large numbers of manpower to patrol important traffic lights.

Commissioned by the city police in association with automotive major Hyundai, TROZ involves the networking of automatic license plate reading cameras at five crowded intersections, including Thirumangalam. Any violation in these crossroads is reported with photographic evidence to generate e-challan.

The TROZ is linked to the Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS) located at the city police headquarters.

A senior official said that in the past, the ITMS was not linked to the National Informatics Center (NIC) website, but this year after upgrading the ITMS with the NIC, notices are being sent. to vehicle owners by SMS or e-mail.

The TROZ had identified more traffic violations than the manual system where staff could miss traffic violations.

Improved version

The city is expected to have an improved version of ITMS via ITS as part of the Smart City mission.

He said that the tender for the implementation of the Intelligent Traffic System (ITS) has been launched and once the contractor is finalized, the ITS will become a reality.
