An Omsk resident suspected of stealing a traffic light to use his solar panels as a source of household electricity has been arrested, the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation reported. for the Omsk region.
After the local school caretaker contacted police, who reported the loss of the traffic light, law enforcement officers pursuing him identified and arrested the culprit of the theft. They became a 39-year-old resident of Omsk, who had previously been prosecuted for beatings and death threats.
Law enforcement found the Russian at his home as he dismantled the stolen fire for further details. The idea of the theft came to him after the electricity was cut in his apartment for non-payment of a debt.
On the fact of the crime, a criminal case was opened under part 1 of article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Theft”). The police investigator established that the thief cut a metal pole with a hacksaw, handed it over to a scrap collection point and threw away the panels and the fire himself. For the time being, the equipment has been returned to the body responsible for maintaining the traffic lights. The total damage caused by property damage amounted to 56,500 rubles.
