Wicklow County Council will undertake public realm and road improvements in the Arklow Town Center Parade Ground area.

Wicklow County Council will undertake public realm and road improvements in the Arklow Town Center Parade Ground area. The proposed works include the reconfiguration of the existing roadway, sidewalks and shared accesses as well as associated drainage, channeling and other ancillary works. The works in the city will be undertaken in a progressive manner and the whole of the works should last approximately 10 months. The initial phase of work will include the installation of drainage, service lines and utilities, and is expected to commence on February 7, 2022 at the Dunne’s Lane junction on Main Street and carry out the work in a phased manner. Traffic management will be in place throughout the duration of the work. The first phase of work will include, but not be limited to, the transformation of Main Street into a one-way system entering from its junction with St. Mary’s Road to Bridge Street. There will be no right turns onto Main Street from Bridge Street. HGVs will be encouraged not to use the Lower Main Street diversion route and will alternatively be directed to Upper Main Street via Junction 21 (Arklow South) on the M11 and R772 Wexford Road. This one-way system will be in place for approximately 5 months. Please note that the bus stop opposite the courthouse will be temporarily closed for the duration of the one-way system and passengers will alternatively be asked to use the bus stop on Wexford Road opposite Lidl or the stops at bus on the R772. Where the project requires a change to the traffic management arrangement, further prior notification will be given.
